La Pitahaya

Also known as Pitaya, Pitajón, Yourero and Waraco, it is a tropical and exotic fruit grown in Colombia, including Antioquia. There are two edible varieties, yellow and red pitahaya, which vary in color and size. Currently, Colombia exports pitaya to almost 21 countries.

The Colombian pitaya is appreciated for its sweetness and appearance. It is rich in water (80%), fiber, phosphorous, iron, antioxidants, and vitamins B and C. Pitaya is best grown in loamy, well-drained soils with pH 5.5 to 6.5 and high organic matter content.
